Drew Halstead

Drew Halstead is an autistic and colorblind writer and systems thinker. He has more than three decades of experience working with complex systems, quality, requirements, healthcare, and technology. His work examines recurring failures, the assumptions that sustain them, and whether corrective actions actually prevent recurrence. The Defect Detector is his first book.

His starting point is practical: finding a problem is not enough. The condition that keeps recreating it has to be examined.

That perspective meets lived autistic experience in The Defect Detector, a book about institutions that measure people against a preferred style before asking what those people can do.

Authority, not just inclusion.

Drew supports autistic-led analysis and causes. Autistic people should participate in defining research questions, evaluating outcomes, and making decisions that affect their lives.

No single author represents every autistic person. Lived experience can inform inquiry without becoming a claim that everyone shares the same mind.
